Samara Joy (1998) has only just graduated, but already belongs to the promising new generation of jazz singers. Raised in a musical family in New York, she now reaches millions of people worldwide with videos on her social media accounts. Some even compare her voice to that of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone or Sarah Vaughan. 'Linger Awhile' is her debut album on Verve Records on which she performs well-known jazz standards, including Can't Get Out Of This Mood and Sweet Pumpkin. She is the winner of the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. In 2021 Jazz Times named her Best New Artist. This second album, 'Linger Awhile', was released in September 2022 and won the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards, where she was also named Best New Artist. She was the second jazz musician to win this award.
